The Australian sharemarket dipped below 8000 on Friday, with the S&P/ASX 200 Index falling 1.3% to 7991.1 points by midday. This decline was driven by investor concerns over Washington’s shifting tariff policies and a significant drop in Commonwealth Bank shares.

The S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.7% (57.2 points) to 8,083.90 on Thursday, as energy stocks weighed on the market following concerns over U.S. crude oil import tariffs. The All Ordinaries declined 0.6%, with all 11 sectors closing in the red.

The S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.9% (-71 points) to 8,127.10, while the All Ordinaries also lost 0.9%, as global trade tensions and China’s latest stimulus measures weighed on sentiment. Ten of eleven sectors declined, led by consumer staples.

The Australian sharemarket fell on Tuesday after US President Donald Trump confirmed plans to proceed with higher tariffs on key trading partners, denting hopes of a reprieve.

The S&P/ASX 200 rebounded on Monday, rising 0.5% (41.5 points) to 8,213.90, recovering from Friday’s losses despite looming US tariffs. The All Ordinaries also gained 0.5%, with eight of eleven sectors advancing. Real estate stocks led gains, while financials and defensive sectors underperformed.
